Mothers Unfolding

Since 2007

A support group for mothers of newborns to six months

“Mothers Unfolding is the antidote to the heavy solitude and exhaustion of early motherhood in contemporary Western life.” — Ashley

“I held my baby while she cried, and you held my baby while she cried. We bounced on the birthing ball, drank hot tea and shared fears, hopes, sadness and joy.” — Lise

What People Are Saying

  • “It took everything I had to drag myself out of the house when my son was 5 weeks old to attend the group. I’m so grateful I did because the support and love felt from the minute I stepped in the door continues to this day. I’ve grown close to the other moms (we see each other once a week!) and Lanell’s wise words are still repeated in our weekly hang outs. This class was a lifesaver for me.”

    — Aninda

  • “I was in a state of near crisis regarding my bonding with my daughter (a second child) I took Lanell’s class and it was like she threw me a life preserver.”

    — Carissa

  • “Becoming a mother is such an incredible, transformative experience, and there is something very special about walking through this time with other women.  Lanell’s wisdom and experience really helped me process my experience, gain confidence as a mother and have a really fun time!  My wish for all new mothers is that they could take part in a group such as this one.”

    — Eileen

FAQs

How much is it and where does it meet?

1

The class fee is $500 and includes breakfast each week plus full access to Lanell during the 6-week period. We meet in my comfy home in Central-East Austin. Do I bring my baby with me?

2

YES! This group is specifically designed for mothers and babies under 6 months, who are still in arms. It’s also ok if you don’t bring your baby with you.

When should I start?

3

Sometimes folks are ready to emerge from their postpartum nest around 2 weeks. Or you may not feel ready until a few months after birth. A typical group is participants with babies who are all around 4-6 weeks.

Is this a postpartum depression support group?

4

While some mothers of the bunch may be navigating tricky mood issues, the group is not centered on postpartum depression. However, mothers having difficulty often find this group is powerful medicine for their heart and soul! While I have significant experience with this wobbly time, I deeply value what a skilled therapist offers and there are many options in our community I can recommend.

What if I don’t identify with the title “mother”?

5

This space warmly welcomes everyone — including those who are nonbinary and trans. We explore “mother” as an archetype, a deep, universal energy of nurturing, tending, and care that lives within all of us, not necessarily a gendered role. If there's language that feels more like you, I want to know!
